Feminist Approach

Feminist Approach
Women portrayal in movies as well as in books has change through one, their roles in movies and books. Two, in recent films movie producers have shown women’s independency and bravery by going against old tradition. Three, the way they are seen. As appose to weak, subordinates, not equal, unable to handle tasks etc. The new point of view is ambiguous and can be anything you would want such as a, superhero, evil villain, witch, savior, goddess, powerful, sleazy, smart, and many more.
In the olden day’s women roles were limited because old tradition had an effect on how women were portrayed, they would not have very big roles and were mostly shown as house wives or princesses who are passive and ditsy, or a victim who is always in peril. Old films show gender roles most commonly in Disney films where the princes who are depicted as very good looking is in need of help and is always saved by a prince who is strong and brave. In recent films woman have become equal and hold much bigger roles. Such as Electra, a comic super hero from marvel, who holds the balance of good and evil. She hold the balance between good and evil because she has the  power to  foresee the future but she must first choose a side and depending on what side she chooses it is where the balance between good and evil will shift. The reason why women are being portrayed differently is all because of time. In the earlier years women weren’t accepted and were viewed as housemaids also as stay at home wives. Back in the day women were not viewed as equals. They were viewed as under men and not as smart or not the same worth as men. But all has changed thought time because women from time to time have shown their worth especially through their work ethic and their intelligence and so on. Society has become more accepting of women there for portraying them in better or higher standing roles.
The higher roles that women play is all due to the fact that society has accepted the fact that women have grown into independency. For example back in the olden day the women was expected to  be stay at home house wives and take care of the kids, make the meals and to just in a basic sense work for men. But the fact that society has allowed women to progress it has also allowed them to enhance themselves. Now that women have the opportunity to rise in ranks to the point where they are equal and in some cases better and smarter than men they have the opportunity to become the break maker. Now society has labeled mothers as super moms due to all that they do in the small amount of time, such as take care of the kids, take them to practice, work, volunteer, be a good wife, and make breakfast, lunch and dinner. Women are now portrayed as super do to the fact that they have so much on their plate and are still able to read a book and work out on their spare time.
Nether the less women have become and envy of society. And when you are an envy of society people want to write about you and make you out to look amazing. Now in modern day era the women roles in movies have changed drastically, even in cartoon all the roles are changing. Disney recently has released a movie where a woman wasn’t just waiting on a prince and sat around hoping their prince charming would walk along. In the film The Princess & The Frog, the woman is a hard worker and is also the first black woman to be the protagonist. In a Disney film the princess wants to open a restaurant and has a lot of ideas of wanting to own a business. Not only has Disney caught on to the move, but also Pixar has joined in with their movie called BRAVE, the story is about a Scottish girl who is to be wed to the winner of an archery competition, being enraged to a lucky shot she joins in for her own hand and shoots the center of at least three target. Not only was she standing up for herself she was breaking old tradition. By making these kinds of movies you show that women have a choice, that they do have a say in what their future is. If you were to see any of these movies with a female protagonist you will see that all my points are proven.  Let’s break down the movie Tangled. My first point being women portrayals in movies have changed, In Tangled the Rapunzel is the main character and she is the princess who wants to go out and see the world. My second point was that they break tradition and they go about what they want through bravery, In Tangled she goes against what her mother said, that being that she must never go out and stay in a castle. Knowingly she gathers up her bravery and goes against her mother’s clutches and goes out to see the world ultimately finding out that she was really a princess and was kidnaped by the witch.  The third point was that in the olden days they were portrayed as weak, and in the movie Tangled she is anything but weak. Along with her trusty pan she goes around hitting people with and persuading a lot of fearful men in a bar to encourage her to follow her dream.
I believe that opposed to the olden days the film industry has changed over time due to the acceptance of women. Through the acceptance of women the roles of women have changed not only in books and in movies but also in society. Women have not only have risen up in ranks by becoming protagonists in movies but by also running for presidency. Women are no longer seen as weak nor under men, They are seen as equals and of great caliber among the best of the best.
